Spiritual Significance
Baisakhi marks the beginning of the harvest season in Punjab and is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism, commemorating the founding of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh Ji on Vaisakhi 1699. On this day, Guru Gobind Singh administered Amrit (nectar of immortality) to the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) and established the Sikh community's code of conduct (Rahit Maryada).
How to Celebrate in United Arab Emirates
Observing Baisakhi in United Arab Emirates is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Dubai (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local GST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Visiting Gurudwaras for Ardas (prayer service) and Langar (community meal)
- Bhangra and Gidda folk dances in open fields
- Procession of Panj Pyare through streets
- Nagar Kirtan (devotional procession with singing)
- Harvesting the rabi crop with communal celebration
