Spiritual Significance
Baisakhi 2027 marks the Punjabi harvest season and is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism, commemorating the founding of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699. On this day, Guru Gobind Singh administered Amrit (nectar of immortality) to the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones), establishing the Khalsa brotherhood and the Sikh code of conduct.
How to Celebrate in United States
Observing Baisakhi in United States is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in New York (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local EST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Visiting Gurudwaras for Ardas and Langar
- Bhangra and Gidda folk dances
- Procession of Panj Pyare through streets
- Nagar Kirtan (devotional singing procession)
- Harvesting the rabi crop with celebration
