Spiritual Significance
Bhai Dooj 2026 (also known as Bhai Tika, Bhau Beej, or Yama Dwitiya) is celebrated two days after Diwali and honors the loving bond between brothers and sisters. According to legend, Yamuna (the river goddess) welcomed her brother Yama (the Lord of Death) with a tilak, flowers, and a feast on this day, and Yama was so moved that he declared any brother who receives a tilak from his sister on this day would never fear death. Sisters apply tilak on their brother's forehead and pray for their long life.
How to Celebrate in United Arab Emirates
Observing Bhai Dooj in United Arab Emirates is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Dubai (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local GST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Sister applies tilak (kumkum, rice, and roli) on brother's forehead
- Sister performs aarti of the brother and feeds him sweets
- Brother gives gifts, money, or blessings to the sister
- Family meal and celebration together
- Visiting each other's homes with sweets and gifts
