Spiritual Significance
Devshayani Ekadashi marks the day Lord Vishnu retires to his cosmic sleep (Yoganidra) on the Sheshnaag in the ocean of milk for four months (Chaturmas). During this period, all auspicious ceremonies like weddings and grihapravesh are traditionally avoided. It falls on the 11th day of the bright fortnight of Ashadha and begins the sacred Chaturmas period.
How to Celebrate in United Arab Emirates
Observing Devshayani Ekadashi in United Arab Emirates is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Dubai (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local GST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Vishnu puja with Tulsi, yellow flowers, and panchamrit
- Listening to the Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat Katha
- Fasting from sunrise to the next day sunrise
- Chanting Vishnu Sahasranama
- Donating yellow cloth, grains, and ghee to Brahmins
