Spiritual Significance
Govardhan Puja 2027 (Annakut) celebrates Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill on his little finger to shelter the people of Vrindavan from Indra's devastating rainstorm. This taught Indra humility and demonstrated that devotion to Krishna transcends the power of all Devas. Devotees create a miniature hill and offer 56 varieties of food (Chhappan Bhog) to the Lord.
How to Celebrate in Australia
Observing Govardhan Puja in Australia is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Sydney (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local AEST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Creating a small Govardhan Hill from cow dung and decorating it
- Offering Annakut (56 varieties of food) to Lord Krishna
- Performing Govardhan Parikrama
- Worshipping cows and bulls with garlands and tilak
- Community feasting and distributing Annakut prasad
