Spiritual Significance
Jagannath Ratha Yatra 2027 is one of the oldest and most spectacular religious processions in the world. Three massive chariots carrying Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra are pulled through the Grand Road (Bada Danda) of Puri by millions of devotees. The English word 'juggernaut' derives from 'Jagannath'. Getting a darshan of the deities on the chariots is considered equivalent to visiting Vaikuntha (the abode of Vishnu).
How to Celebrate in Singapore
Observing Jagannath Ratha Yatra in Singapore is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Singapore (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local SGT evening/night windows as shown above.
- Pulling the three massive chariots through Puri's Grand Road
- Chhera Pahanra — the King of Puri sweeps the chariot floor
- Offering Mahaprasad (56 types of food) to Lord Jagannath
- Devotional singing and dancing in the procession
- Darshan of deities — considered equivalent to attaining Vaikuntha
