Karwa Chauth 2026 is a one-day strict nirjala fast (from sunrise to moonrise) observed by married Hindu women for the long life, prosperity, and well-being of their husbands. The ritual has deep roots in North Indian culture and is particularly popular in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The fast is broken only after sighting the moon, which is first viewed through a sieve and then the husband's face through the same sieve. In modern times, many husbands also observe the fast for their wives.
