Spiritual Significance
Mahavir Jayanti 2026 celebrates the birth of Vardhamana Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankara (great teacher) of Jainism, born in 599 BCE in Vaishali (modern-day Bihar). Lord Mahavira's teachings of Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (celibacy), and Aparigraha (non-attachment) form the foundation of Jain philosophy. He attained Kaivalya (omniscience) after 12 years of rigorous penance and asceticism.
How to Celebrate in United Arab Emirates
Observing Mahavir Jayanti in United Arab Emirates is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Dubai (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local GST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Abhishek of Mahavira's idol with milk, saffron water, and sandalwood
- Grand procession (Rath Yatra) of Mahavira's idol through streets
- Recitation of Mahavira's teachings and Jain scriptures
- Charitable donations and feeding the poor
- Meditation and observance of non-violence
