Spiritual Significance
Papamochani Ekadashi falls on the 11th day of the dark fortnight of Chaitra and its name literally means 'destroyer of sins'. According to the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, even the gravest sins — including those equal to killing a Brahmin — are obliterated by observing this Ekadashi. The Katha of sage Medhavi who was redeemed from sin by this fast is recited on this day.
How to Celebrate in United Arab Emirates
Observing Papamochani Ekadashi in United Arab Emirates is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Dubai (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local GST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Ekadashi fast from sunrise to next day with full devotion
- Reciting the Papamochani Ekadashi Katha
- Worshipping Lord Vishnu with red lotus and Tulsi
- Night vigil with bhajans and prayers
- Donating sesame seeds and sesame oil to Brahmins
