Papankusha Ekadashi falls on the 11th day of the bright fortnight of Ashwin and is named for its ability to destroy (ankusha = goad/hook) all sins (papa). Observing this fast with sincere devotion is said to ensure liberation (moksha) and passage to Vaikuntha (Vishnu's realm). It is also known to negate the ill effects of one's past karma.
