Spiritual Significance
Prabodhini Ekadashi (also called Dev Uthani or Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi) marks the auspicious moment when Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month Chaturmas sleep. With Vishnu's awakening, the period of inauspiciousness ends and all auspicious activities — weddings, grihapravesh, thread ceremonies — can resume. Tulsi Vivah (the ceremonial marriage of the Tulsi plant with Vishnu/Shaligram) is also celebrated on this day.
How to Celebrate in United Arab Emirates
Observing Prabodhini Ekadashi in United Arab Emirates is highly auspicious. Because local timezone sunrise and moonrise times differ, follow these practices:
- Align Fasting with Local Sunrise: Start your vrat precisely at sunrise in Dubai (approx 06:00 local time), rather than following Indian Standard Time.
- Perform Puja during local Auspicious Hours: Make sure to perform the main rituals during local GST evening/night windows as shown above.
- Special puja to wake Vishnu — blowing conch, ringing bells, singing hymns
- Tulsi Vivah ceremony in homes and temples
- Sugarcane and seasonal vegetable offerings to Vishnu
- Fasting on Ekadashi and breaking fast on Dwadashi
- Beginning planning of weddings and auspicious ceremonies
