What are Planetary Transits?
In Vedic astrology, planetary transits (Gochaar) refer to the real-time movement of planets through the 12 zodiac signs. As each planet orbits the Sun, it crosses different zodiac signs and, in doing so, enters different houses from your natal Moon sign (Rashi). These transits trigger events, challenges, and opportunities in specific areas of your life.
Unlike the birth chart, which is fixed at the moment of birth, transits are dynamic — they are constantly changing and interacting with your natal chart. The transit effects depend on three key factors: which planet is transiting (its natural nature), which house it is transiting from your Moon sign, and which dasha (planetary period) you are currently running in your natal chart.
Slow-moving planets like Saturn and Jupiter have the most profound effects because they spend extended periods in each sign. Their transits mark major life phases — career shifts, relationship changes, spiritual growth, and health transformations. Faster transits like Mercury retrograde have more subtle, short-term effects on communication, travel, and decision-making.
